Persons applying for birth certificates or death certificates can do so either online, in person, by mail, by phone or by drop-off. Applicants can expect to pay $17 for an expedited and certified copy of a vital record. If additional copies are requested, the applicant will pay $3 per copy. Only persons who are subjects of a vital record, or who are either their next-of-kin or legal representatives can file requests for birth and death records. Applicants must provide valid IDs to prove their identity before vital records can be processed.

The Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center houses pre-trial and post-trial inmates, as well as persons convicted of felonies or misdemeanors. The search portal allows interested persons to find inmates by entering their names, race and sex. Inmate information displayed in the search results will include the inmate's name, sex, race, mugshot, date of birth, arrest date, warrant details, bond details, and court details. The Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center is capable of housing up to 384 inmates at a time and is managed by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
